Nancy Jo Pancake Smith 1949-2014

Nancy Jo Pancake Smith, 64, of Flatwoods, KY, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.


Mrs. Smith was born September 14, 1949 in Ashland, KY, a daughter of the late George Albert and Beatrice Jackson Pancake.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Donald and Larry Pancake.


She was a homemaker and a member of Abundant Life United Pentecostal Church in Raceland, KY.

Mrs. Smith was passionate about cooking and caring for her family.


She is survived by her husband of twenty years, Carl “Blackie” Smith, Sr.; two sons: Rick (Kathy) Vanderpool of Wheelersburg, OH, and Mike (Tracie) Vanderpool of Ironton, OH; a daughter, Angie (Jim) Skaggs of Greenup, KY; a brother, Delbert (Jackie) Pancake of Ashland; a sister, Margaret (Don) Carver of Flatwoods, KY; six grandchildren, Hunter Skaggs, Michael Skaggs, Cammi Jo Jacobson, Brittany Bryan, Brianne Morgan, and Seth Vanderpool; and two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.


The funeral will be conducted at 1 PM on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY with Pastor Anthony Keaton officiating.  Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, KY.


The visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, August 12, 2013 at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at

I love my mamaw so very much and will miss her so deeply. I remember when she would pop her teeth in and out wgen we was little and it would scared the day lights out of us!!! I will always hold her near....
