Charles H. Brown 1925-2017

Charles H. Brown 92, of Flatwoods, KY passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center  in Wurtland, KY.

He was born on February 12, 1925 in Hunnewell, KY; a son of the late George and Elizabeth Wooten Brown.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Frances Adkins Brown, and a son Paul Lee Brown.

 

Charles was a World War II Veteran in the US Navy and served on the USS Ponaganset. Mr. Brown was a farmer who loved to hunt, fish, and serve people. He retired from Armco in Ashland, KY in1992. He was a former mayor of the city of Wurtland, former president of Wurtland Lions Club, City Commissioner, Secretary Treasurer of Wurtland Fire Department, Wurtland Band Boosters, Greenup Band Boosters and a Kentucky Colonel.

 

He is survived by his loving wife Mazie S. Brewer Brown of Flatwoods, KY; four sons: Charles E. Brown of Greenup, KY, Michael Brown of Wurtland, KY; Kenneth Brown of Hunnewell, KY, and Herbert (Carol) Brown of Wurtland, KY; three daughters: Deborah (Jim) Brown of Hunnewell, KY; Kennetha (Donald) Olden of Fort Washington, KY, and Rita (Larry) Fraley of Flatwoods, KY; three step children: Hurlden (Eileen) Evans of Cape Coral, FL; Kenneth (Irma) Evans of Nicholasville, KY and Rick (Kim) Wilburn of Grayson, KY; 19 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren and 5 step greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Harold Elwood Brown of Hunnewell, KY and two sisters, Grace Haskins of Ironton, OH and Christine Cannon of TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

 

Funeral will be on Friday March 17, 2017 at 11am at the Wurtland Nazarene Church in Wurtland, KY with Pastor Scott Hill officiating. Burial will be at KY Veterans Cemetery NE in Greenup County, KY.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 6 to 8pm at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY. Condolences may be expressed at baileyfamilyfuneralhome.com

Very sad to lose Charles but glad he is in heaven with Frances. I was blessed to be a family member for many years and still consider them to be family. Prayers for all the family to find comfort at this time of loss.
