Amanda Sue Hess

Amanda Sue Estep Hess, 81, of Flatwoods, KY, formally of Branchland, WV, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods, KY.

Amanda was born October 29, 1941, in West Hamlin, WV, to the late Victor Estep and Minnie Midkiff Estep.

In addition to her parents, Amanda was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Amos Hess and two brothers: Jimmy and Jack Estep.

Mrs. Hess was a homemaker who was an excellent cook and liked to find and try new recipes. She enjoyed reading, solving puzzles, and canning produce from her garden. She was a dedicated band mom for her children and a great Nanny to her grandchildren. She was a member of Branchland United Baptist Church in Branchland, WV.

Amanda is survived by her son, Mark Allen (Kathy) Hess of Raceland, KY; her daughter, Teresa Gay Washington of Ashland, KY; five grandchildren, Amanda Janee’ Hess of Raceland, KY, Brandon Scott (Brittany) Hess of Greenup, KY; Joshua Andrew (Heather) Hess of Flatwoods, KY, Emily Reed (Aaron) Montgomery of Greenup, KY, and Charles David “DJ” Washington Jr. of Glenwood, WV; three great-grandchildren: Kingston Reed Montgomery, Andrew Garrett Hess, and Hunter Matthew Hess; and a host of extended family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at Noon on Monday, August 7, 2023, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville, WV with Mark and Kathy Hess officiating.

The family has entrusted Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY, with the arrangements.
