ASHLAND — Francis Marion Porter Jr., 76, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.Mr. Porter was born March 2, 1935, in Ashland, a son of the late Francis Marion Porter Sr. and the late Ida Johnson Porter. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Virgil Porter, Oscar Randolph Porter, William Massie Porter and Lewis Ray Porter; and two sisters, Ethel Brown and Sarah Rebecca Wells.Mr. Porter was a press room foreman for the Ashland Daily Independent for 32 years. He had worked in security for Community Trust Bank in Ashland, attended Community Tabernacle in Raceland and was a member of GCC/IBT District Council 3 Local 508 M. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Zella Johnson Porter; four daughters, Ruth Fields of Ashland, Brenda Hall (Larry) Moore of Ashland, Joyce (Mark) Dishman of Greenup and Donna (J. E.) Smith; two brothers, Proctor B. Porter of Summit and Charles Edward Porter of Greenup; two sisters, Janie (Fred) Brewer and Annabelle Stewart, both of Ashland; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods by the Rev. J.E. Smith. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
