Franklin Forest “Porky” Bloom, 76, of Raceland, KY went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland, KY.
Mr. Bloom was born October 23, 1936 in Brown County, OH, a son of the late John Will Bloom and the late Margaret Black Bloom Berry. He was also preceded in death by his wife Lillie Little Bloom in 2011.
Mr. Bloom was a retired By Products Operator for the AK Steel Coke Plant, where he had worked for over 30 years. He was a Kentucky Colonel appointed by Governor Steve Beshear, and a member of the United Steel Workers of America, Local 1865 in Ashland. He has coached and participated in Russell High School Baseball for over 25 years, where a tournament was named in his honor: The Frank Bloom Invitational Tournament.
He is survived by three children: William (Beverly) Bloom, Valerie (Rick) Waddle, and Chris (Barbie) Bloom all of Flatwoods, KY; two sisters: Wanda (Bill) Tucker and Nellie Stockdale, both of Cincinnati, OH. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Amanda Conley, John Bloom, Laura Defibaugh, Ricky D. Waddle, Maggie Waddle, Robert Cackowski, Meagan Allen, Kari Bloom; and nine great grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 am Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods with Rev. Johnsey Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, KY.
The viewing will be from 6 until 9 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Russell High School Baseball Boosters.
