Helen Louise Metz Brown, 73, of Flatwoods, KY, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at her residence. Mrs. Brown was born June 12, 1945, in Ashland, KY, to the late Jack Deral and Mary Alice Stewart Metz. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by one son, Roger Harry Brown II. Mrs. Brown was a school teacher and artist for many years. She was an expert in stain glass art. Mrs. Brown was a 1964 Graduate of Russell High School and graduated from Morehead State University with a bachelors degree in art as well as a masters degree in education. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Appalachian Writers Club, Flatwoods Homemakers Club, Greenup County Democratic Women’s Club, and Flatwoods Poetry Club. She also attended Faith Christian Assembly in Flatwoods, KY.  Helen will always be remembered for her kind, sweet spirit. Mrs. Brown is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Roger Harry Brown of Flatwoods, KY; one son, Nathan William Brown of Raceland, KY; one daughter-in-law Angie Brown of Flatwoods, KY; four grandchildren: Austin, Adam, Abby, and Ava; one brother, Jack (Nancy) Metz of Flatwoods, KY; one sister, Patricia (Larry) Stevens of Russell, KY; and a host of extended family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, KY.
