Hurshell R

Hurshell R. "Bulldog" Salyers, Jr., 69, of Argillite, KY, went home with Jesus, Monday, September 26, 2016, at Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington, WV.   Mr. Salyers was born on September 27, 1946, in Westwood, KY; a son of the late, Hurshell R. Salyers, Sr. and Geneva Salisbury Salyers.  He was also preceded in death by his son, Steven Anthony Salyers, and a brother, Francis Virgil Salyers.   Mr. Salyers was a shear operator and with electrical maintenance for fifty years with Kentucky Electric Steel.  He was with the United Steel Workers Union Local #7054 in Ashland, KY.  He was with Company A 201st Engineering Battalion with  the National Guard, and Company C 478th Engineering Battalion U.S. Army Reserve.  He attended Shawnee Church of God in Flatwoods, KY. He was a 1964 alumni of Paul Blazer High School.   Mr. Salyers will be sadly missed by his bride of 50 years, LaVerne K. Harris Salyers, two daughters:  Christie "Krickie" (Michael) Ray of Raceland, KY, and Heather "Tetter" (Larry) Smith of Flatwoods, KY; two granddaughters:  Amber (Jarrad) Vaughn Mathew of Texas, and Ashley Wells of Greenup, KY; three sisters:  Dorothy (Neal) Stephens of Georgetown, KY, Jo Ann Holmes of Worthington, KY, and Donna (Dan) Burke of Ashland, KY; his dogs: Buddy and Jodi; and many nieces, nephews, family, friends, and neighbors. The funeral will be at 1 PM on Friday, September 30, 2016, at Shawnee Church of God in Flatwoods, KY with Pastor Jim Stamper officiating.  Burial will follow in Old Fields Cemetery in Greenup County, KY.  Patriot Guard will be standing in honor and escorting to the final resting place.
