James Fredrick Wise Sr.

James Fredrick Wise, Sr., 63, of Flatwoods, KY, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV.

James was born December 13, 1960, in Oxford, OH, to the late Milton Leroy Wise and Barbara Houser Wise.

James was a retired schoolteacher from NJTS (New Jersey Training School for Boys) for twenty years and also taught culinary arts. He was a hard worker who loved interior designing, antiques, and anything outdoors, especially fishing and gardening. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University.

James is survived by his loving wife of forty-three years, Debra Melnick Wise of Flatwoods, KY; his four sons, James (Matthew Sparks) Wise, Jr. of Flatwoods, KY, Brian (Katrina) Wise of Hurricane, WV, Andrew (Andrea Harper) Wise of Flatwoods, KY, and Timothy (Haley Oliver) Wise of Ironton, OH; a brother, Scott (Peggy) Wise of Huntington, WV; a sister, Tina (Tom) Vanperson of Proctorville, OH; three grandchildren: Jaydyn Wise, Abel Wise, and Ember Wise; nieces, nephews, godchildren, extended family, and friends.

There is no service scheduled at this time.
