Jesse William Melvin

Jesse William Melvin, 77, of Flatwoods, KY, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV.

Mr. Melvin was born October 23, 1947, in Wurtland, KY, to the late Cermilus and Clytie Ethel Colegrove Melvin.

In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Patricia Kaye Hensley Melvin; a brother, Gerald David Melvin; and three sisters: Ruth Angelee Russell, Betty Delores Roar, and Minnie Sylvesta Potter.

Jesse was a retired clerk from CSX and a sergeant with the United States Air Force. He was a former member of the American Legion in Raceland, KY, and a lifetime member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He attended Oldsteam Baptist Church in Wurtland, KY.

Mr. Melvin is survived by his two daughters, Yvonne Denise Melvin of Flatwoods, KY, and Michele Lea (Roger) Rose of Greenup, KY; four grandchildren: Jessica (Ben) Headford, Brandon Kiser, Lorna Rose, and Holly (Levi Lewis) Rose; four great-grandchildren: Lucille, Aaron James “AJ”, Liam, Clara; three sisters, Julia Elizabeth Witten Davis of West Jefferson, OH, Zella Mae Penix of Wurtland, KY, Virginia Joy Litteral of Wurtland, KY, and a host of extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Oldsteam Baptist Church (2664 State Route 503, Wurtland, KY 41144) with Pastor Rodney Vance and Pastor Marvin Boggs. 

Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday, at the church.

A Committal service will be held at 1 P.M. on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast in Greenup, KY.
