John David Gartin

John David Gartin, Sr., 60, of Wurtland, KY passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, KY. Mr. Gartin was born on December 26, 1954 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, KY, a son of Juanita Moore Gartin and the late James “Peanut” Nolan Gartin. Mr. Gartin was a Sergeant in United States Marine Corps, and of the Old Regular Baptist Faith.  He was a Superintendent for Utter Construction Inc. of Bethel, OH, and retired from International Union of Operating Engineers Local 181 of Henderson, KY. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of more than forty one years, Carolyn “Penny” Short Gartin; two sons:  John “Johnny” Gartin II and his wife Alice Gartin of Greenup, KY,  Jason Gartin and a girlfriend, Deanna Blanton of Raceland, KY; a daughter, Joanna Gartin and her fiancé, Bill Newman, of Greenup, KY; two sisters: Joan Triplett, and her husband Teddy, of Wurtland, KY, and Gail Allen and her husband, Bob, of Deering, OH; nine grandchildren: David and Tommy Gartin; Jimmy and Gracie Gartin; Katie and Jessica Gartin; Amanda Gartin Adams; Haley and Ethan Newman; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The funeral will be at 11 am on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY with Elder Ira Adkins JR officiating.  Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast in Greenup County, KY.  Military Rites will be performed by the Greenbo Detachment of the Marine Corps League.
