Lawrence W. “Larry” McKenzie, 79, of Flatwoods, KY, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, KY. Mr. McKenzie was born October 14, 1940, in Flatwoods, KY, to the late Herman “Poppy” McKenzie and Goldie “Nanny” Gilley McKenzie. In addition to his parents, Mr. McKenzie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Wanda Jean Willis McKenzie; a son, Steve Brown; and a brother, Jerry McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie was a machinist at Armco and AK Steel in Ashland, KY as well as the owner/operator of Miss Kitty’s Auger Inn in Ironton, OH. Larry was a graduate of Russell High School in Russell, KY and a U.S. Navy Veteran during the Vietnam era. Mr. McKenzie is survived by two daughters, Sonia (Robert) McKenzie-Moyer of Naples, FL and Debbie Brown of Flatwoods, KY; two sons, Timothy Brown of South Point, OH and Garland Brown of Greenup, KY; eight grandchildren: Stacia Moyer, Sophie Wallace, Bo Moyer, Rhonda Strange, Casey Schaffer, Joshua Schaffer, Deven Levi Brown, and Bianca Brown; a sister, Deanna Sue Gallaher of Flatwoods, KY; and a host of extended family and friends. A funeral service will be held in at 1 P.M. on Friday, October 2, 2020, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY, with Brother Danny Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Russell, KY. Visitation will be from 11 A.M. until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
