Leonard Franklin Rice, Sr., 89, of Ashland, KY, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY.
Mr. Rice was born on August 27, 1926 in Ashland, KY; a son of the late William Rice, Jr. and Flora Marie Edwards Rice. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Deloris Justice Rice; his grandparents: Benjamin Curtis and Belle Edwards; a daughter, Donna Sue Twinam, and a brother, William Curtis Rice.
Mr. Rice attended of the Ashland Heights Wesleyan Church in Ashland, KY, and a WW II Naval Veteran. He was a distinguished Kentucky Colonel. He is also a member of Elks B.P.O.E. 350 in Ashland, KY, Lifetime member at large of AMVETS, a member of American Legion Post 76 in Ashland, KY, and a member at large of VFW.
Mr. Rice is survived by his daughter: Sandra Kay Blair of Phoenix, AZ; three sons: Leonard F. Rice, Jr. of Kitts Hill, OH, William “Billy” Rice of Wurtland, KY, and Richard Alan Rice of Ashland, KY; one special grandson, Earl David Twinam and six other grandchildren and one great grandson.
Mr. Rice never met a stranger. Even Hal Murphy, a well known radio personality, coined the phrase, “Leonard Rice will treat you nice!”
Mr. Rice will be laid to rest at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast in Greenup County, KY. No public services have been scheduled at this time.
