Margaret Cochran, 98, of Wurtland, died July 5, 2019, in Trinity Station Retirement Home following a short illness.
She was born May 12, 1921, in Greenup County Ky., a daughter of the late Clifford and Nellie Stafford. She attended Ashland Junior college and worked in the County Clerks office before moving to Tacoma Washington where her husband was stationed during WWII. She was a retired beautician, practicing into her 70’s from her beauty shop at home. A life member of the Wurtland United Church, she was the last living charter member of Wurtland United Methodist Church, a life member of the United Methodist Women, a member of Greenup County Historical Society, and active in the Woman’s clubs of Wurtland and Flatwoods. Margaret had a beautiful alto voice and loved to sing. She was part of a gospel quartet that performed for many years in the Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jim Cochran. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Matheny (Al Swett) of Oakton, Va and Sharon Harris of Lexington, Ky.; two sons, Tom Cochran (Linda) and Joe Cochran (Vickie Huff) of Berryville, Va; 14 grandchildren, Bruce Matheny, Marie Matheny Sinks, Brent Harris, Joe Harris, Blake Harris, Heather Harris, Alexious Osumenya, Ariel Osumenya Houston, Amelia Harris, Matt Cochran, Tonya Cochran Wenz, Adam Cochran, Kristin Cochran Allen, Aaron Cochran, and 17 great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren and 2 step great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at Bailey Family Funeral Home, Flatwoods, Ky., with visitation from 1:00-3:00 prior to the service. Burial will be in the Stafford Cemetery in Wurtland, Ky. There will be a reception following the service at the funeral home.
