Ray Sheffield, 96, of Flatwoods, KY passed away at his residence on Saturday, July 23, 2016.
Mr. Sheffield was born on April 15, 1920 in Cedar Creek, KY; a son of the late Clay and Daisy Mary Davidson Sheffield. He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Clayton Claude Sheffield, Robert Boyd Sheffield, and Clarence Sheffield; two sisters: Eunice Mabel Sheffield and Evelyn Sheffield; and a daughter-in-law, Diane Sheffield.
Mr. Sheffield was a WW II Army Veteran, 1st furnaceman for Armco Steel in Ashland, KY, and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Ray was a jack of all trades. He built houses, plumbed, repaired cars and lawn mowers. He loved family history, gardening, traveling and bluegrass music. He never met a stranger. He loved his wife, family, and church.
He is survived by his two daughters: Mildred (David) Christensen of Ashland, KY, and Janet (Clinton) Shields of Flatwoods, KY; a son, Harold Gene Sheffield of Greenup, KY; twelve grandchildren: Becki Meadows (Renee Beckett) of Ashland, KY, Nicole Sheffield of Flatwoods, KY, Colette (Loren) Huddleston of Dry Ridge, KY, Natalie Carter of Greenup, KY, Nicholas Sheffield of Greenup, KY, Kimberly (David) Orr of Ranson, WV, Neal ( Alexandra) Christensen of Taylorsville, UT, Keith (Moselle) Christensen of Richmond, KY, Tanya Christensen of Flatwoods, KY, Shaun (Amanda) Christensen of Lexington, KY, Steven Shields of Flatwoods, KY, and Katherine (Logan) Haynes of Middletown, OH; and fifteen great grandchildren.
A grave site dedication service will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland, KY by Pres. Gale K. Beaman. Military Rites will be performed by Greenbo Detachment of the Marine Corps League. Pallbearers will be: Keith Christensen, Shaun Christensen, Damian McKnight, Nicholas Sheffield, Trey Carter, Logan Haynes, and Steven Shields.
