Reba Darlene Short

Reba Darlene Rice Short, 90, of Raceland, KY, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, KY.

Mrs. Short was born on September 25, 1933, in Flatwoods, KY to the late George Henry Rice and Martha Mae Smith Rice.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Short was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-eight years, William “Bill” Proctor Short; her son, William Perry Short; a daughter, Melessa Marlene Short; and a sister, Kathleen Barnes.

Reba was a seamstress at Cinderella Dress Factory, Ashland Craft, and J&L Alterations all in Ashland, KY. She was also a seamstress for Wilson’s Sporting Goods in Ironton, OH. Reba remained a renowned seamstress serving the tri-state area for many years. She was a 1951 graduate of Russell High School in Russell, KY, and a member of First Baptist Church in Flatwoods, KY.

Mrs. Short is survived by three daughters, Vanessa (Gilbert) Coleman of Ashland, KY, Martha (Dudley) Barker of Raceland, KY, and Reba Kay Nolan of Ashland, KY; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Short of Raceland, KY; nine grandchildren: Stephanie (Seth) Hicks, Mandy (Paul) Hughes, Bettina (David) Grubb, Samantha (Josh) Kazee, William Ashley (Gretchen) Short, James (Kelli) Anderson, David (Marandy) Nolan, Amber (Lonnie) Daniels, and Anna Barker; twenty-five great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; five sisters, Lucille Greene of Flatwoods, KY, Valda Mayo of Flatwoods, KY, Louella (Jim) Adkins of Columbus, OH, Emily (Jim) Lewis of Flatwoods, KY, Joyce Ann (Larry) Crisp of Ashland, KY; and a host of extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY, with Pastor Jim Nichols and Bro. Dave Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Russell, KY.

Visitation will be 6 P.M. - 9 P.M. on Thursday, October 5, 2023, and one hour before the funeral service on Friday, at the funeral home.
