ASHLAND — Robert J. Arthur, 81, of Ashland, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011, in Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Mr. Arthur was born September 27, 1929, in Princess, a son of the late Robert Simeon and Ruth Elva Riffe Arthur. He was preceded in death by two sons, John Engles and David Engles; four brothers, Roy Arthur, Homer Arthur, Arville Arthur and Larry Arthur; and two sisters, Rosa Hall and Joyce Daniels.He was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict, and a laborer for GIBCO. He also attended Ashland Pentecostal Holiness.Mr. Arthur is survived by three brothers, Charles Everett Arthur of Ashland, Earl D. (Donna) Arthur of Flatwoods and Vernon (Rita) Johnson of Catlettsburg; three sisters, Bessie E. Nelson of Ashland, Muriel Meade of Catlettsburg and Laverne Adkins of Grayson.The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods with Pastor Ron Evans and the Rev. Tommy Evans officiating.
