Rose Marie Whalen

Rose Marie Jarrell Whalen, 85, of Flatwoods, KY passed away on Tueseday, July 26, 2016 at her residence. Mrs. Whalen was born on January 21, 1931 in Kenova, WV; a daughter of the late Samuel Ben and Maggie Clara Smith Jarrell. She was also preceded in death by her husband William John Whalen, and five brothers: Vinson Smith Jarrell, Max Welton Jarrell, Arthur Edgar Jarrell, Samuel Ben Jarrell, Jr., and Billy Earl Jarrell. She was a custodian at McDowell Elementary School and a Deputy for the Greenup Jail.  She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxillary Post #325 for over 44 years, and offered classes at the Kentucky Arts Center. Mrs. Whalen will sadly missed by three sons: William Thomas Whalen of Elsmere, KY, Michael "Max" Jarrell Whalen, and Kelly Dean (Debi) Whalen of Houston, TX; a daughter,  Maggie Jane Whalen of Flatwoods, KY; six grandchildren: W. J. Whalen, Kelly Whalen II, Michael Aaron Stephens, Matthew David Neice, Christina Whalen, and Suzanne Lawrence, eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Pearl (Robert) Jarrell Vallance Bentel of Flatwoods, KY, and a brother, Bobby Gene Jarrell of Hampton, VA. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Ohio Valley Memorial Garden in Gallipolis, OH with Rev. Johnny Riley and David Daniels officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY.
