GREENUP — Viola B. Cordle Lowry, 86, of Flatwoods, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011, in Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. Mrs. Lowry was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Flatwoods, to the late James Henry “Jim-Tom” and Nellie Mae Wilburn Cordle. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lowry; three sisters, Okie Metz, Martha Fortune and Shirley Stanley; and a brother, Ted Cordle.Mrs. Lowry was a library aide for the Flatwoods branch of the Greenup County Public Library and of the Christian faith.Mrs. Lowry is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Ray) Hensley of Wurtland and Gloria Pruitt and her fiancé, Joe Hershberger, of Flatwoods; a stepdaughter, Sharon Lowry of Huntington; and two stepsons, Guy and Mike Lowry, both of Ohio. She is also survived by five brothers, Paul David “Jeek” (Betty) Cordle of Indiana, Richard “Duck” (Iris Ann) Cordle of Ironton, Ohio, Virgil (Nellie) Cordle of Greenup, Ron (Ruby) Cordle of Russell and Bill (Ruby) Cordle of Florida; a sister, Mary Emily “Nab” Griffith of Georgia; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two best friends, Bethel Caudill and Henry Katschman. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2011, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods by Brother Ronnie Biars. Burial will be in O’Bryan Cemetery in Russell.
