Wanda Jean Willis McKenzie, 72, of Flatwoods, KY, passed away at her home on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. McKenzie was born on August 10, 1942 in Ironton, OH, a daughter of the late Hattie May “Big Mom” DePriest Nelson. She was also preceded in death by a son, Steve Brown, a brother, Gerald Nelson, and a grandson, Chad Brown.
She was owner and operator of Miss Kitty’s Auger Inn in Ironton, OH. She was the head cook and creator of the infamous “Wanda Burger.”
She leaves behind to mourn her passing, her loving husband, Larry McKenzie; two sons: Garland Brown of Greenup, KY and Tim Brown of South Point, OH; a daughter, Debbi Brown of Carleton, MI; a step daughter, Sonia (Rob) Moyer of Naples, FL; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; a brother, Harold Willis of Greensboro, NC; a sister, Janet (Tracy) Brown of Greenup, KY; and a host of extended family and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY with Bro. Danny Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, KY.
Visitation will be from 11 am until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, KY 41101.
