Wilbur Burtis Taylor

Wilbur Burtis Taylor, 90, of Argillite, KY, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY.

Wilbur was born March 24, 1934, in Hazard, Perry County, KY, to the late Mitchell and Claudia Asher Taylor.

In addition to his parents, Wilbur was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Shirley Greene Taylor; two brothers: Wilgus and Willard Taylor; and his two sisters: Wanna Casey and Willa Stevens.

Mr. Taylor was a retired Senior Master sergeant with the United States Air Force Vietnam and Korean War. While still in the military, he played baseball, basketball, and football. When he wasn’t playing, he was coaching. His children and grandchildren were his world and loved spending time with them. He graduated from Raceland High School in Raceland, KY, and was of the Protestant faith. Wilbur was a very generous and big-hearted man who will be deeply missed.

Mr. Taylor is survived by his son, Kevin (Mary) Taylor of Aberdeen, MS; his daughter, Lisa Abrams of Argillite, KY; four grandchildren: Corlie Williams, Colton (Angie) Bentley, Shiloh (Bryan) Brigner, and Sabrina (Chase Lockhart) Taylor; seven great-grandchildren: Eli Williams, Ava Williams, Wyatt Bentley, Astraea Bentley, Draevyn Fannin, Mathias Brigner, and Ithilien Brigner; a brother, William (Joann) Taylor of Argillite, KY; and a host of extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast in Greenup, KY.

Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital.
