William Proctor Short, 89, of Flatwoods, KY, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY.
Mr. Short was born on June 27, 1931, in Boyd County, KY to the late William Albert and Ruth Maxine Salyers Short.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his son, William Perry Short; a daughter, Melessa Short; and several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Short was a U.S. Airforce Veteran and worked at the car shops as a Blacksmith for C&O Railroad. He coached baseball for multiple teams for many years and attended the First Baptist Church in Flatwoods, KY. William was an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan and enjoyed playing the mandolin for the Crisp family. William loved sharing the gospel thru his music.
Mr. Short is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Reba Rice Short of Flatwoods, KY; three daughters, Vanessa (Gilbert) Coleman of Ashland, KY, Martha (Dudley) Barker of Raceland, KY, Reba Kay Nolan of Ashland, KY; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Short of Raceland, KY; nine grandchildren: Bettina Grubb, William Ashley Short, Stephanie Hicks, Mandy Hughes, James Anderson, Samantha Melvin, Anna Barker, David Nolan, and Amber Nolan; several great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, and extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Monday, March 22, 2021, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY with Pastor James Nichols and Bro. Dave Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Russell, KY.
Visitation will be from 3 P.M. – 6 P.M. on Sunday, March 21, 2021 as well as one hour before the service on Monday at the funeral home.
